nothing says fall like apple picking and fresh cider donuts. all i've been hearing lately is how great the cider donuts (and fresh ice cream) are at miller farm in clinton, md. so we drove half way around the beltway and through pg county and finally got to the farm. except there wasn't really a farm - and there surely were no apple trees. and they had already sold out of cider donuts. but they did have freshly made apple ice cream. so we got a large ice cream and a few assorted donuts and got back in the car.
since we really wanted some apples we decided to go where we knew there would be apple trees. so we got back on the beltway and drove the other half all the way back to potomac where homestead farms is. we made a quick stop for food and coffee but then we were at the farm ready to pick apples. tragically the pink ladies weren't ripe enough yet - but we got some good sun crisp, cameo and stayman apples.
we got enough apples to eat and bake with and i got a little something special for our party on saturday. i won't ruin the surprise - let's just say that it's something you might want to stand under.
