so i decided to swing by mcfadden's on my way home last night. except now it's not literally on my way home - so sad to have left georgetown. also, i totally recommend holding out on people because then when you actually show up they're so excited to see you!
mcfadden's never disappoints. never. i've been there when it's busy, when it's empty, when it's summer, when it's winter - it always seems to be a great time. or maybe it's just the company i'm with? but either way, last night was more of the same.
got there right after work and it was slammed with lots of big group happy hours. the state department (?) was totally hogging the back bar - kristen and i got excited at first at the prospect of free food, but when we realized there was none we aborted that mission immediately. so i, being the generous person i am, started a tab. wow, did that turn out in my favor or what?! more on that later...
so we got boxed out by lots of bigger groups and kristen and i ended up standing by the stairs. that particular spot happens to be right by the trash can too. kristen was a little upset about this, but i tried to be optimistic about the situation and said, "maybe we'll meet someone here." to which she responded, "like oscar?" touché, kristen, touché.
so the rest of our party finally showed up and we made our way back to the back room to get some food, etc. i guess it's been a while, but who knew mcfadden's had nice leather couches set up by the big screen in the back?? i certainly had no idea. but i have to admit, it is a nice addition to the place.
so in addition to the state department, the law firm patton boggs (no comma, no and) was having their own little get together at mcfadden's last night. they had the couches "reserved" from 6-8pm. but since when do i pay attention to reservations? seeing as no one was actually sitting on these couches (they were merely using them to put their coats down) i decided to take advantage of the prime game watching area.
at this point there had already been two upsets in the tourney - and i personally was hoping for another one in the duke game. i wasn't really rooting for the wolfpack as much as i was rooting against duke. of course we were surrounded by duke fans - but surprisingly they weren't all completely annoying. actually there was only one really annoying one - and he was from patton boggs - figures.
so at this point it was about 7:45pm and some patton boggs girl tried to sit down on one of the couches we haven't taken over. she failed miserably. she missed by a mile and landed right on her butt. how embarrassing. but don't worry - she had awesome friends who just kept feeding her more and more drinks. at one point she was cuddled up on the chair w/ the annoying duke fan. i would have paid money to be at the patton boggs office this morning to see that morning-after interaction. awkward.
the only thing i don't really care for at mcfadden's is the bathroom. well really it's the bathroom lady. i just find her completely unnecessary. but to my surprise she wasn't there last night! however, i wouldn't mind to see her next time because the bathrooms last night were in a sad, sad state (some lights off, two toilets broken, some overflowage at some point, etc.)
but, the bathroom did allow me to overhear the funniest thing ever. well, it was funny to me. but all you non-jews (aka all of you) probably won't think it's funny. at all. but i will tell the story anyways.
so i walked into the bathroom and got at the end of the line. there are two girls over at the sink washing their hands. the sink to the far left has been making weird noises all night, but i guess these girls didn't know that. one of the girls turned on that faucet it let out a large, deep squeaking noise. so she turned to her friend and says, "that sink sounds like the shofar." haha.
but, by far the best part of the night was when i went to go close my tab. (see i told you i'd get back to it). i frolicked up to the bar and gave the bartender my last name and asked to close my tab. a few minutes later she came back with my card and the check. now at this point i had amassed a tab of (not all for me, mind you): 2 yuenglings, 2 blue moons, 3 rum & diets and 2 pitchers of miller lite. so i was thinking maybe around $30-40, which totally would have been fine. so imagine my shock when i get my bill and it's only $8. i did a triple take and then left a tip and walked away. so either there was another brown there last night who totally got screwed or the bartender was stupid and/or really liked me. whatever - i'll take it. (and somehow nari's tab for all the food still managed to be more than mine. i just can't win, can i?)
and i'll leave you with a few closing thoughts:
1. don't chew orbitz mint mojito gum. it's just really not that good.
2. i want the captain morgan's pirate poster/mirror thing they have back by the bathrooms.
3. duke sucks. but not as much as maryland.
big game tonight. LET'S GO HOOS! (with the fist pump of course!)
2 comments:
1. it really is the company you're with that makes it so good EVERY time
2. orbitz did let me down with the mint mojito- i'll stick to the sweet mint from now on
3. you just can't win with me- large tabs are just a part of my life
4. you forgot to mention the $5 bill that somehow ended up in my bag- too bad the" hot asian guy" forgot to leave his number.
nari, orbit gum should not be confused with the beautiful dancehall/bar/poolhall that is orbitz in cville.
