you've already heard the best story from thursday night (dj tbd). however, i just realized there was another fun tidbit from the night. as we were people watching/playing the how many people do you know? game, we came across someone we wish we all knew. true, he was completely unfortunate looking and was wearing mandles. but, his shirt was priceless. it said: "so easy a cavegirl could do me." classic.
friday was definitely light on work and heavy on play. i went into work for a few hours, but then spent the afternoon watching lost (such a great episode), getting my haircut and running errands in vienna. then on a whim, on the ride home from vienna, susie and i decided it would be an excellent idea to head out and drink on a patio somewhere. that train of thought eventually led us to cafe asia and within an hour we were doing sake bombs. couldn't have asked for a better way to kick off the long weekend.
after we caused enough commotion and spillage at cafe asia we headed down the street to dr. dremo's. now that the weather's nice the patio is open for good! we settled at a back table and got the beer flowing. and, just as we always do, we made everyone come to us. before long we had a nice little group at our table and we were onto our third pitcher. and perks of having your friend living across the street from dremo's are you can have her sneak in games to play. yes, that was us playing kings and jenga at a table at dremo's. and the night was topped off with some arm wrestling on the metro and a mini dance party in our kitchen. yeah, i'd say it was a fun night.
saturday was pool day! it's almost like i never left. the weather was perfect - hot and balmy! after soaking up lots and lots of sun it was time to head home to prepare for the night time activities. we had to make up for nari being mia for the weekend so we gathered up some friends and headed out for a night on the town. first stop - kristen's roof! we brought our case of amstel light up there and enjoyed the sights! and just when you thought sitting on a roof overlooking the city couldn't get any better - they add xm radio up there w/ speaker rocks hidden all around. it was glorious!
but, the night would not end there. we hopped in a cab and made our way across the river to georgetown. back to my old stomping grounds - garrett's! while we were all secretly hoping that mark (or even johnny c) would suddenly appear, it was actually nice that it wasn't so busy. we staked out a corner and i began the long story of indebleu night. ooooh, it's a good one! and just as i got the the part about breakfast (well actually not breakfast) some guy randomly joined our circle and included himself in the conversation. awesome.
as the night came to a close we made our way back out to m st. to catch a cab. who knew we'd end up with the best cab driver ever. and, no we did not remember to get his number (or even his name), but if you ever come across the cab driver who tells you all his funny (and dirty!) stories about past cab rides then you'll have to get his name for us. and according to him cab confessional is coming to dc - so beware what you do/say in the back seat of a cab.
sunday was my sister's 21st birthday. but, seeing as she just got back from china less than 12 hours earlier i was surprised she was up for celebrating that night. so, after lounging poolside all day, we headed to old town for some dinner and drinks. we ended up at las tapas for dinner. just as good as last time! after getting served by our not spanish waiter mustava, we headed down towards the water and got some drinks at union street pub. and i'm happy to report that they have starr hill on tap! and i know the birchmere has it on tap too - must be an alexandria thing. being the lame older sister i am, i left before things got ugly. but apparently she only got sick once, so that's not too bad.
and then there was monday. first activity of the day - the falls church 3k fun run! this year nari and i worked our way to the front of the pack with the "serious runners." and yes, some little kids passed us, but overall we were happy w/ our run! then we went out for our traditional bagels and coffee after the run. and then as if a morning run weren't enough for me i headed to the pool for an hour swim. but, with the hot and muggy weather it felt great! and then i plopped down on a lounge chair and finished the book i had started the afternoon before. true i got interrupted by riley (the new love of my life!) a few times, but overall a very relaxing day!
then, before enjoying a family dinner from skorpios at the pool i hopped into swim a few more laps (maybe that's why my legs are killing me today?). i forgot how nice it is to swim in an outdoor pool! after stuffing my face i headed home to do some baking. and i was pleasantly surprised to find that our newest roommate had already moved into the basement! let the summer of fun begin!
ps. did you know there was a secret back room at cafe asia? yeah, neither did i. it's called the "secret garden" and they apparently have raging dance parties there late night. who knew?
