if you haven't already heard, paul simon is being awarded the first annual gershwin prize for popular song by the library of congress. sweet. and what's even sweeter is the tribute concert (scroll down to may 23rd) they're holding at the warner theater on may 23rd.
i saw the concert announced in the wapo weekend section on friday and then immediately (ok, a few days later - but whatever) looked online to see about getting tickets. wow, they're expensive. so if anyone has a few hundred dollars laying around and wants to take me i'm totally free that night.
did you see the list of performers? just look: Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, Art Garfunkel, Alison Krauss, Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin, Dianne Reeves, Yolanda Adams, Marc Anthony, Dixie Hummingbirds, Jerry Douglas, Philip Glass, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Stephen Marley, Buckwheat Zydeco, and Simon himself!
besides marc anthony (seriously, wtf?) it sounds like an all-star lineup. especially stevie! i guess i'll just have to wait and watch it on pbs on june 27th.
