it was truly the perfect storm this weekend. it was cinco de mayo, the derby, national make out day and the fight (if you're into that). clearly the day was meant to be celebrated. and in true manhattan place style we threw down big time.
not everything went off without a hitch, though. i should have taken it as a sign when the guy from the inn called me at work on thursday to tell me he couldn't get the keg of dos equis i had ordered the week before. in a panic i started calling around everywhere i could think that would have a keg. the only place i found that had dos equis (or any kegs at all) was total wine out in chantilly. sure it wasn't ideal, but we had already promised dos equis so we couldn't back out now.
since the guy at total wine told me he couldn't put any kegs aside (and they only had 2 kegs of dos equis left) we decided to get there when they opened on saturday morning to ensure we got one. that's right - we were out in chantilly at 8:45 on saturday morning. luckily there was a dunkin donuts in the shopping center!
after securing the keg, we set out to put the finishing touches on our party. we got our mexican mistletoe, filled up the sombrero piñata (with tequila mini bottles of course!), burned spanish music cds and put out the sombreros and maracas. all this was done before 2pm on saturday so we settled on the couch for some quality lounge time and put in the sandlot.
around 4pm we figured it was about time to tap the keg and get the party started. true, people wouldn't be getting there for at least an hour, but we had no problem playing beer pong by ourselves. well apparently that wasn't in our cards. instead of getting the party started we spent the next three hours attempting to get our keg to work.
after multiple confirmations that the keg was busted we drove all the way back out to chantilly to trade it in for a new one. as a slap in the face the guy put the tap on our original keg and it started flowing. ugh. so we left the tap on and drove all the way back. luckily our friends are able to entertain themselves since we left them all alone for a while. so we took the keg out of the car and started pouring some beers. we got two cups worth and then it stopped working again. are you kidding me??
at this point we were ready to punch something really hard (too bad we didn't buy the human punching bag from dick's). we had an expert weigh in on the situation and it was determined that the crappy plastic tap we got from total wine was no good. to save ourselves from driving to chantilly for the third time that day we called the vienna inn to see if they would let us come get a tap. thank god they did, otherwise we would have had a whole keg of dos equis and wouldn't have been able to drink a drop.
so, the vienna inn saved the day and we were able to rock out all night long. we even made it all the way out to georgetown. and the night came full circle when sweet caroline came on as one of the last songs of the night. the night really was so good, so good, so good!
and then got a cab ride home from the owner of h-mart. he was probably one of the nicest cab drivers i've ever had (granted i was not in the limo cab a few weeks back, but still). he was so nice that when we realized susie had left her phone in the cab he drove all the way back out to our house to give it back.
and there's only one way to top off a night like that - brunch at the vienna inn. clearly that's where we headed sunday morning. and i think our attempt to become regulars is working - we were served in record time on sunday morning (i.e. less than 30 minutes!).
